Recently tried their beancurd tarts again. I ordered 3 boxes (1 original, 2 mixed). They were surprisingly heavy! It was very tiring to carry them home 😅
It's best to call to preorder their tarts. Staff was helpful and friendly. Was advised that the beancurd tarts are best consumed within 2 days. I kept the tarts refrigerated and ate one tart per day up to day 3 and they still tasted good. The crust is the hard and heavy kind, so it might be slightly difficult for ppl with weak teeth to bite into. The beancurd is light in flavour so it's a nice contrast with the tart. I prefer the original ones over those with additional toppings. I think it would sell well if they make a mini bite-sized version of these tarts as they would be more suitable as desserts at gatherings.
This outlet is the most convenient for ppl taking public transport as it is quite near Little India Stn. No dine in space. Wish that they sell the desserts individually or have some samples so that walk-in customers can try one before deciding on getting a box.
The good: pineapple tarts, good amount of filling with a sufficiently buttery and crumbly pastry
The average: beancurd tarts, decent pastry with beancurd in it, nothing special
The ugly: the Swiss rolls, which are not fluffy and are frozen in the centre to the point you feel like you are biting into ice
Wanted to drop by for bean curd tarts but was disappointed. As it’s close to CNY period, I made sure to check the website but it wasn’t stated as unavailable. Walked all through way and it’s NA till after CNY. I later say it on Instagram, but really, it’s the website that is linked to the google page. Please update!!!
This is my first visit to this main outlet, as I usually head over to the other two outlets.
Dropped by around 4+pm on a Saturday afternoon as I was around the area to try my luck at purchasing as a walk-in customer. From La Salle, I had to cross a couple of roads through the ongoing construction to reach this outlet, but it was not difficult to find, next to Old Chang Kee.
While it was not crowded outside or inside the store, there was a continuous line of customers, and the one before me, as well as the two after me were all customers who had pre-ordered and were there for collection.
The lady who attended to me was courteous and helpful. Besides my usual order of the beancurd tarts, she was able to suggest the flavours for the swiss rolls which were still available. I landed on purchasing the Mandarin Orange flavour, which was a good choice.
The standard of the bean curd tarts remain as it has always been, a smooth cold delicious treat, and am glad to find another sweet treat that I enjoy in the Mandarin Orange swiss roll. The orange flavour was subtle in the sponge cake and I appreciate that it was a very decent size (8 thick slices), and L.E Cafe used fresh cream and real orange bits within the cream.
Would definitely recommend this outlet and its service.
Just updated my review with Moon Pies and my favorite golf ball pineapple tarts! Actually I eat them all year round and bought early in January just to avoid the mad CNY rush!
The pineapple tarts are great but I really don’t like the system they setup to sell the product. The space is small, SafeEntry is difficult and disorganized and payment is inconvenient (no credit card). Overall a pain to purchase.
Two months before Chinese New Year, I had to place an order for their golf ball sized pineapple tarts annually. It is a popular CNY gift for its juicy content of pineapple jam. Sold throughout the year, but you can only get them if you place an early order nearing Chinese New Year. All outlets will be closed to concentrate solely on the production of pineapple tarts for customers who had ordered them as CNY prosperity gift.
L.E. Cafe is also very popular for their beancurd tarts, coffee cookies, vegetarian almond cookies, etc. All these popular products will not be sold during the period of pineapple tarts closures.
I have been their fan for many, many years, and their golf ball pineapple tarts have become one of my signature CNY gifts by popular expectations.
Give yourself a treat. You will return for more.
The Fresh Cream Mandarin Orange Swiss Roll was nice. One of the best swiss roll around. The fresh cream swiss roll is worth the buy.
Tried the Bean Curd Tarts, did not like it. Still prefer egg tart. Somehow bean curd does not blend well with tart.
These bean curd tarts need to be pre-booked! Jiggly jiggly, the tarts are soft but not too crumbly. They are so good. After anticipating the order for about two weeks, I finally got hold of it! It’s not too sweet and you can eat a few within one sitting!
